Some of you may remember my asking your opinions on street parking, I got a pretty resounding "don't do it!"

I've been doing it so far, just because I still need to make arrangements. From what I see, the area seems pretty nice, it's mostly loft apartments in the area, I'm usually parked around late model sedans, some of which are actually very nice. So I know these people at least care about their cars. Some of them even have reasonably tasteful aftermarket parts on them, and overall the street I've been parking on is fairly quiet.

But at the end of the day, I'm still going to need to rent a spot, because salt. The snow is coming any day now here in Michigan, haha.

I'm ready for it. Ice scraper is in the car. Snow blower has gas oil and has been started.

Man, I'm hoping to work on my snowblower this weekend, it ran the first snow of the winter last year then gave me the finger the rest of the winter. SUCKED. Hoping to get it running.

I've learned a lot about small engine repair since becoming a home owner.

WELL THEN, It has a tecumseh motor, I put in a fresh plug every year, yet it seems to flood before I can get it going.

Tips? The logical, dont push the primer button as much did not work lol.

Oh haha I didn't mean it like I was skilled in small engine repair I just have gone from nothing to something. Usually the solution is clean and rebuild the carb and if that doesn't work throw it away and buy another on.

lol, thought i'd take a shot.

The snowblower was free about 8 years old but never used, it was my wife's grandmothers. So I could put an entire new engine on it and still not amount to the cost of a new snowblower. so it may go to the small engine shop in town if i cant get it running this weekend.

We got ours for pretty cheap from a family friend and had a small engine guy look it over. They came right to the house and picked it up even.

Well, that may be. I live in KS so maybe everything seems desolate and tragic here.

Fancy, home calls for the small engine guy!

If I can't get it going this weekend, I'll call the place in town and see what they can do/how much it will cost for them to go through it.

With small engines the carb is usually suspect if the plugs are good. The two common problems I've run into are the carb getting varnished from old gas sitting in it forever. That is easily remedied by taking the carb off and blasting it with carb cleaner. You may have to disassemble it to get the jets cleaned out properly. The other thing that happens is the floats get "waterlogged" and don't move properly. I think the only fix for that is replacing them.

That's great advice thanks, it's very possible old gas was an issue as it sat for a loooong time before I got my hands on it.

The carb will be my target this weekend!

Hmm, I suppose not all the time. If you like total flat expanses of land with lots of wind and full-on bipolar weather changes, this is the place for you! Last month we went from cold/wind/snow to t-shirt and shorts weather (80?) within 24 hours. That actually was nice, because I generally like snow in small doses. Ok, I don't hate it here. Maybe I'm desolate and tragic..

Thought I would give you an update on the Snowblower. Your advice was spot on.

I started with checking the spark which it had a great response to (pulled the plug out of the block and pulled the starter cord, tons of spark). I drained the gas tank, purged the gas out of the carb's bowl and found some interested results. I have no idea how this thing ran for 2 winters for me before dieing last winter. We got the snowblower for free from my wife's grandmother. It had been sitting and not used at all for about 5 years before we got it. Gave it to us, I put gas in it and started it up, took quite a few pulls to start all the time but whatever I knew it was a little older.

After I drained the gas yesterday I think I found anti-freeze in there, I don't think there's any way the stale gas could turn that neon-green shade that came out of the carb bowl. So I closed it all back up poured in nice new gas and on the first pull it started right up.

I believe it's life has been saved. If there really was antifreeze in it from someone trying to winterize it, its first a really dick move to not have told me there was antifreeze in it and second shocking it ran for 2 winters before giving up.

Just thought I'd give you an update, thanks for the advice!
